Here in the UK there is a raging debate (although not necessarily an informed one!) about the EU treaty (formerly the EU Constitution). Last night, MPs voted on whether or not to have a vote about having a referendum on the treaty - many people saying that they think it's the same as the constitution - which was stopped in its tracks by the Dutch and the French voting No to it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4601439.stm.
Whether it is or not, frankly, outside the scope of this post (not least because I haven't read everything about it to be able to make my own estimation) - however I did find it funny that the Liberal Democrat leader yesterday evening instructed his MPs to abstain from the vote (because it's not the vote they want), well, the aftermath has been potentially very damaging, both for the party and its image I think: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7279805.stm.
I thought the whole point of liberalism is that if somebody wants to do something that is not in itself morally questionable, or does not in any way hurt anybody, then they should be allowed to it!
